We took the "Chunnel" (AKA a super fast speed train under the water) from Brussels to London & you could tell you were under water due to the fact that your ears would pop more often than not...
Once we reached the surface the architecture in the train station was very cool...
***the "Old English Pub" style with old brick and timber was everywhere***
Then I noticed the signage...
***How cute is this lady's restroom symbol - which they call toilets NOT restrooms***
***Standing joke was with the word "Sortie" which reminded us of "Sort Of" so every time we headed for the exit we would chuckle that we were lost again and the sign can only tell us this way was "SORT OF the way out" he he he***
We quickly learned that London is much bigger than we anticipated and a valuable lesson about where to book a hotel room was taught...
***Not quite realizing the Gatwick/London Airport is not anywhere close to the city we became very proficient with various types of transportation to get to and from our final destination - a typical day was to take a taxi ride to the train station to ride the train to the destination where we would connect to the next train to get to the city***
***What a great way to conserve energy as when you leave the room you take the key and all lights are out... hmmm***
Once in the city we found these everywhere...
***The red phone booths and double-decker buses really look like they do in the movies and the cars look just like Super Nanny's***
We visited my great great great (?) grandpa Sir Nelson in Trafalgar Square...
***I had no idea the whole square was dedicated to him...
Secretly I felt honored to be related to such a hero :)***
From Buckingham Palace, Big Ben, Piccadilly Square you name it we saw it close up and from "The Eye" - sadly my camera died as we took the above picture and the rest are on T's phone so will add those later...
***They Eye is a HUGE ferris wheel with platforms to see the entire city of London - it was amazing!***
We also helped ourselves to some famous fish and chips thanks to several locals pointing us in the right direction...
***In general the locals seemed to be very helpful and nice as they would go out of their way to give us direction or recommendations when we didn't even ask - In a big city that is few and far between!***
The British seem to really love their fish - to order we had the option of what type of fish we wanted...
***Unlike what I am used to they served us the whole fish fillet***
We also became very acquainted with the London Underground train system...
***And underground it REALLY was as you would take one super long escalator down yet another escalator just to get to the trains***
We are glad we mastered the train system in London...
Where they speak English &...
We Understood!
